Tribalog 2017

November 24th – 26th
Tribal Sleepover The Fright before Christmas – Ingestre Hall, Stafford
hosted by Asif Qu

More mad shenanigans with prizes for the most frightful Christmas costume and best bribe to the judges!! I love the marketing technique that all prizes are absolute crap and that the judges are completely without morals and open to corruption. I always love teaching at this event and this year had a full crowd in each of my workshops: Less is More, ATS® – dancing  to the Power of Two and my newest workshop Cracking the Da Vinci Code. But one of the highlights is meeting up with old friends and persuading them to perform with me at the evening party in a bit of complete improv. So I was chuffed to bits when I was able to dance once again with my wonderful friends, Jo, Jane and Angela. Plus the icing on the cake was a bit of drumming  and jamming with the Nomads

November 7th – 14th
Tribal Funoon – Agadir, Morocco
hosted by Nawarra and Angela Noble
Workshops with Kelley in York June 24th
hosted by Karuna Tribal Bellydance
Tribal Goddess April 7th – 9th

Tribal Light Festival, Minsk, Belarus
hosted by Polina Yankovskaya
10 – 13th March 2017

Kelley’s LA Workshops – Chatsworth, Los Angeles, USA
hosted by Jen McDonald, Twisted Gypsy
28 – 29th January 2017

IMG_8206Jen and I met on the very first Tribal Pura International Advanced Teacher Training course at the FatChanceBellyDance studio in San Francisco, 2015. So I was absolutely delighted when she asked me to teach six of my workshops in her home territory. After a very busy time in San Fran I boarded the domestic flight to LA then took the Flyaway shuttle across LA to Burbank where Jen was waiting for me. I love that she has our ‘flock of birds’ cut out of the metal waste bins at the shopping mall where she sells honey.

We spent the next couple of days chilling out, visiting the Tattoo Exposition and eating absolutely delicious food – Cajun/Creole at Les Sisters – home cooked Soul food – I thought HushPuppies were shoes until I went here! Next day I was treated to homemade burgers from In and Out, a luxurious cinema seat with electric footrest and recline option whilst we watched the latest award winning film “Hidden Figures”.  Sushi was the next dish of the day and then all too soon it was time to knuckle down:

Zils, Drills and Thrills
Throw Some Shapes
Collective Thought Bubble
Whirling Dervish
Fire in the Belly
Keep Calm & Improv

We were so busy that sadly I forgot to take any photos until right at the very end with the last of my diehards!! Bonus points to Kayla who did every single workshop

Teacher Training 2017
Hilton Hotel, Burlingame, San Francisco, USA

23rd – 24th January 2017

Olga Meos – Kazakstan – we first met in Moscow 2012

An absolute honour to once again assist Carolena and Megha in teacher training. It is such a responsibility to offer critique and one which I hope I do thoughtfully, positively and with encouragement for all the wonderful students on the course

ATS Homecoming: Phone Home
Hilton Hotel, Burlingame, San Francisco, USA
19th – 22nd January 2017

Poster Session – One Step at a Time
Kelley presented video, photos and talk providing updates on the previous year of our Sister to Sister projects. By the time of Homecoming 2017 our sewing workshop had been up and running for a whole year and we have more than 350 women using a contraceptive implant. All this made possible by our dance community

Troupe Britannia
Once again Kelley persuaded dancers from all corners of the UK to come together and dance as Troupe Britannia. For Philippa, Kelley and our good friend Jesse this was our third Homecoming performance together. We met again to ‘keep calm and improv’ alongside two new faces, please welcome, Angela and Marek.

General Skills 16th-19th January, 2017
Hilton Hotel, Burlingame, San Francisco, USA

So for the second time in less than a year I was on my way to assist Carolena & Megha in their General Skills course. This time, rather than helping to teach, I would be one of 6 Advanced Teachers coming together to lead the drills and help with demonstrations

Studio 508, Half Moon Bay, California
11th – 15th January 2017

Well what a fabulous start to the year 2017!!!! Carolena had invited me to stay for the run up to what would be a hectic 3 weeks in California. It gave me time to acclimatise to the 8 hour time difference, try out the best sushi I’ve ever had and to lend a hand in her new shop Studio 508, which I promptly began to dismantle. My task was actually to gather together all the beautiful pieces of Nakarali jewellery as well as her new choli dress designs ready to sell at the FatChance booth at Homecoming 2017.
